Produced by Bodega Catena Zapata – one of the most emblematic and influential wineries in Argentina, founded in 1902 by Nicolas Catena. The winery is a pioneer in the development of high-altitude viticulture in the Andes and is recognized for its merits in placing Argentine Malbec on the world wine map. The High Mountain Vines series presents a selection of vineyards located at an altitude of over 900–1500 m above sea level, where the climate and terroir create unique conditions for the development of wines.
Varietal composition: 100% Malbec
Terroir: The vineyards are located in the high mountain regions of Mendoza – mainly in the subregions of Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley. The soils are poor, alluvial, with excellent drainage, and the daily temperature amplitudes are large, which results in concentrated fruit with balanced acidity and elegant structure.
Vinification: Hand-picked with precise selection of grapes. Fermentation at controlled temperature with long maceration to extract color and tannins. Aged in French oak barrels for 12–14 months, partly new, in order to achieve harmony between the fruit character and oak nuances.
Organoleptic characteristics
Aroma: Complex nose with intense notes of black plum, ripe cherries, violets, graphite and fine vanilla.
