Villa Maria is one of New Zealand’s most iconic and established wineries, internationally recognised for the quality of its wines. The winery is a pioneer in sustainable winemaking and specialises in expressing the Marlborough terroir.
Grape variety:
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Terroir:
The grapes come from the Wairau Valley, the heart of the Marlborough region – an area with a cool oceanic climate, high sun exposure and stony-alluvial soils. These conditions create wines with pronounced aromatics, freshness and distinct varietal character.
Vinification:
The grapes are harvested in the early hours to preserve the aromas. Fermentation takes place mainly in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with part of the wine aged on the fine lees for additional texture and complexity. The “Reserve” style emphasises the concentration and purity of the fruit.
Organoleptic characteristics
Aroma:
Extremely expressive and fresh nose with notes of lime, passion fruit, green apple and gooseberry, complemented by grassy and slightly mineral accents.
Taste:
Lively and energetic body with high, well-integrated acidity. The taste follows the aromatic profile – citrus, tropical fruits and crisp freshness, with a clean and long finish.
Food pairings:
Ideal for seafood, oysters, white fish, goat cheese, salads with fresh herbs and Asian cuisine.
Serving temperature:
8°–10 °C.
