Le Grance is an elegant and complex white wine from Tuscany, produced by the Caparzo winery.
Caparzo decided to name the vineyard area from which this wine, first produced in 1985, is produced, "Le Grance" -- > the name Le Grance comes from the fortified buildings used in the Siena province in the Middle Ages to store agricultural goods. Le Grance is a perfect example of how a winery located in an area known for its magnificent red wines can also produce a superb white wine. Originally made with only Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Traminer were added in 1988 to enrich the blend. A wonderful white wine worthy of aging, in the style of the great wines beyond the Alps.
Varietals: Chardonnay + Sauvignon Blanc + Traminer
Terroir: The Caparzo vineyards are located in the Montalcino area, the plots with the grape varieties from which the wine is made cover an area of three hectares with a southwest exposure in the northern part of the appellation, at an altitude of 220 meters. The soils are sandy-clayey Pliocene sediments, which contributes to minerality and good acidity. The climate is warm and sunny, with cool nights, which allow slow ripening and preservation of freshness and aromas.
Vinification:
- Hand picking;
- Primary fermentation: The must macerates on the skins at low temperature for 24 hours, followed by soft pressing. The must then ferments completely in 350-liter French oak barrels and subsequently undergoes a two-month batonage.
- Malolactic fermentation: spontaneous, in barrels
