Produced by Ron Zacapa – an iconic Guatemalan distillery founded in 1976 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the city of Zacapa. The rum is created in the so-called “House Above the Clouds” – aging warehouses located at an altitude of over 2300 m in the mountains of Guatemala. This unique approach slows down the aging process and contributes to the exceptional smoothness and complexity of Zacapa rums. Solera Gran Reserva is the brand’s flagship and one of the most recognizable premium rums in the world.
Raw material:
First-quality sugar cane (virgin sugar cane honey), obtained from the first pressing of the cane, instead of standard molasses – a key factor in the rich and pure profile of the rum.
Terroir:
Sugar cane is grown in the fertile volcanic soils of Guatemala, in a tropical climate with abundant sunshine. Aging takes place in a cool mountain climate, which ensures a slow and even development of the aromas.
Distillation and aging:
The rum is carefully distilled and aged using the Solera system, using a combination of barrels that have previously aged American whiskey, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez. The average age of the rums used is between 6 and 23 years, which gives depth, sweetness and a complex, multi-layered character.
