Pierre Ferrand is a French house with a long tradition, located in the heart of the Cognac region. The producer is among the most highly regarded in the world for its focus on the Première Cru – Grande Champagne terroir, which produces an exceptionally fine, elegant and deep cognac. The house combines a classic artisanal approach with innovative techniques, by hand-selecting old eaux-de-vie and applying unique aging methods for maximum complexity.
Terroir
The cognac comes from Grande Champagne – Premier Cru, the most prestigious area in the region. The soils are rich in chalk and limestone, which provide exceptionally good drainage and give the spirit finesse, length and elegant floral notes. The climate is temperate oceanic – favoring the slow ripening of the grapes and the development of highly aromatic eaux-de-vie.
Vinification and aging
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented under carefully controlled parameters. Distillation is carried out traditionally, in small Charentais-type copper stills, with particular attention to the “noble lees” that add creamy texture and richness.
The cognac is initially aged in French oak – Limousin and Tronçais, and then undergoes a second stage of aging in Pedro Ximénez barrels, which gives it sweet, dense and dessert nuances. It is this Double Cask aging that brings depth, softness and a unique aromatic profile.
