Serego Alighieri is a historic estate linked to descendants of Dante Alighieri, located in the heart of Valpolicella. Managed in partnership with the renowned Mazi winery, the estate combines traditional local practices with a modern winemaking approach, including the use of cherry wood for aging.
Grape variety: Corvina, Molinara, Sangiovese
Terroir: The vineyards are located on the hills outside Verona, on limestone-basalt soil with good drainage. The region is characterized by a mild climate influenced by Lake Garda, which contributes to slow ripening and the development of an aromatic profile and structure.
Vinification: Some of the grapes undergo the traditional appassimento technique - drying to concentrate aromas and tannins. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, followed by aging in large cherry wood barrels for about 18 months, which gives the wine a distinctive velvety softness.
Organoleptic characteristics
Aroma: Complex bouquet of ripe cherry, dark plum, cinnamon, tobacco and sweet spices.
Taste: Full-bodied and well-structured wine with velvety tannins, warm fruit nuances and an elegant, long finish with a subtle spicy aftertaste.
Food pairing: Recommended with game, veal with cream sauce or aged Italian cheeses such as Pecorino or Grana Padano.
Serving temperature: 16°–18°C
Aging potential: Up to 10 years after harvest
