Villa Maria Estate – one of New Zealand’s most prestigious and award-winning wineries, founded in 1961 by Sir George Fiston. The winery is renowned for its commitment to sustainable viticulture, hand-selection of grapes and the production of wines with a clean, elegant and terroir-driven style. The Private Bin series showcases the distinctive varieties of New Zealand with a focus on balance and freshness.
Terroir:
The wine is produced from selected vineyards in the Marlborough and Canterbury regions of the South Island. These areas are distinguished by a cool maritime climate, limestone-clay soils and a long growing season, which allow the grapes to develop fine aromas, delicate structure and natural freshness.
Vinification:
The grapes are hand-picked and fermented at a controlled temperature with partial immersion of the cap for a softer extract. After fermentation, the wine is partially aged in oak barrels for about 8–10 months, which adds complexity and velvety texture without dominating the varietal aroma.
